At the local level schools with great autism programs are few and far between. Odyssey school is one of those that have a great program. It was started in 1997 with the goal so that students potentials can be unlocked with a small class size and a large teacher to student ratio. This school is a non-profit and has been helping children who have special needs for special needs for almost 20 years. This is also the school that one of our stakeholders, Griffin Kittleson, goes to.

It is a "nurturing environment where children can thrive." They have multiple experienced therapists and consultants on hand. CTAC is a private institution that provides helpful workshops and links parents and children with private school in North Austin where the children can go to school. The Austin High School LifeSkills program is a program that helps children with autism focusing mainly on communication, job skills and social skills. We have had the chance to talk and learn with some of the kids in the class and that has driven this group to help this program even more. The teachers for this class are incredibly experienced and know the kids and what they like, dislike and how to teach them best. This project and group is focused on raising money for this LifeSkills class. Even though the teachers and staff are great with the kids that can't make up for the financial difficulties they are having. There is mold in the walls, the computers are handme downs from the rest of the school and don't work, they don't have enough books and the books they do have aren't challenging enough.
