Global
On the global scale many countries besides the west have high rates of autism. Autism was once largely thought to be secluded to the western countries only. Recently continents like South America, Africa and Asia have been reporting more and more cases of autism. In Asia there are very few services and schools that support ASD children because autism was only even recognized in China until the 1980s. In Hong Kong however there is a significant amount of services to help these children. In India there is an organization called Action for Autism (AFA) that lobbies the government to change the perception of autism, and to get more services for children funded with professionals. In India it is quite difficult for ASD children because almost all specialized schools are private and incredibly expensive, many children who have autism have tried to go to a public school and are kicked out because of behavior issues.
